The 10th Annual ACVO/StokesRx National Service Animal Eye Exam

UVS is happy to announce our participation in the 10th Anniversary of the ACVO/StokesRx National Service Animal Eye Exam event! During the entire month of May, service animals were invited to receive free screening eye exams from participating Ophthalmologists. This year was a record-breaking year with 290 participating Ophthalmologists from all over the United States and Canada.
UVS has two Ophthalmologists on staff, Dr. Christa Corbett and Dr. Keith Montgomery, who donated their time and services to the ACVO/StokesRx Eye Exams every Wednesday during the month of May. Together, they provided free screenings to over 30 certified service and therapy dogs. We were glad to contribute to the 7,200 service animals who were examined during the event!
Pictured above (left) is Foster, a Black Lab from The Seeing Eye. The Seeing Eye provides service dogs to people who are visually impaired to enhance their independence, dignity, and self-confidence. We also had three visitors (above right and below) Destiny, Access, and Emma from Empire Service Dogs. Empire Service Dogs is a nonprofit organization that breeds, trains, and places service dogs with people who have physical disabilities.
This successful event continues to increase awareness of the relationships between service animals, their owners/caretakers, primary care veterinarians, and board-certified specialists in veterinary Ophthalmology.
