Veterinary Technician Students
As a teaching hospital, Upstate Veterinary Specialties (UVS) is pleased to offer preceptorships and internships for veterinary technician students. UVS is committed to providing an ideal learning environment and giving students exposure to various aspects of veterinary medicine in both specialty and emergency medicine. All students will be paired with a mentor who will work directly with you to help achieve your education goals.
Preceptorships
Preceptor opportunities can be scheduled throughout the year, with placements typically ranging from two to four weeks. Preceptorships focus on shadowing and practicing technician skills for the student. Your mentor will work with you to help you accomplish your pre-determined skills list from your AVMA-accredited program.
Internships
Internships for bachelor’s programs are available for both medical and administrative programs. They are typically 16 weeks long and include a rotation through each department within the hospital. The schedule for the medical rotation will include days, nights, and weekends to provide the most comprehensive look at the field of emergency and specialty veterinary medicine. Students will have an opportunity to work alongside our teams and experience first-hand how a growing and successful emergency and specialty practice operates.
The services of Upstate Veterinary Specialties are as follows:
