About RECOVER Certified Rescuer Workshops:

The process of CPR certification takes place in two parts:

  • Part One: Online pre-course in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). This online course is required before attending UVS’s RECOVER Certified Rescuer Workshop. To participate in UVS’s workshop, you must submit proof of completing the online course 3 weeks before your scheduled workshop date.
  • Part Two: UVS’s in-person RECOVER Certified Rescuer Workshop. An in-person event with both BLS and ALS labs and simulations.

UVS’s RECOVER Certified Rescuer Workshop is an interactive session led by our RECOVER Certified BLS/ALS Instructors. The course covers key concepts and features hands-on training with simulated scenarios for both BLS and ALS.

The workshop starts with Basic Life Support (BLS) and focuses on teaching the fundamentals of CPR using models, ABC assessment, compressions, and ventilation. BLS training usually lasts 2 hours. Afterward, participants receive RECOVER BLS Rescuer Certification.

The second part of the workshop focuses on Advanced Life Support (ALS) and utilizes a high-fidelity simulator to run teams through scenarios and provide real-time feedback. As the course progresses, each scenario builds on the previous, focusing on equipment utilization, drug administration, defibrillation, and effective communication during and after arrests. Afterwards, groups are certified through specifically developed “mega-code” scenarios. The ALS training and certification include four 45-minute scenarios, followed by debriefs, and last approximately four and a half hours.

The program concludes with a practical assessment that participants must pass to earn certification as a RECOVER Certified BLS/ALS Rescuer.
