Technician Mentorship Program

Overview:

UVS is offering a Technician Mentorship Program to qualified licensed veterinary technicians. Our program will provide hands-on experiential learning and training for NYS-licensed veterinary technicians. If you are a newer LVT, this is a great way to gain knowledge, experience, and skills in both specialty and emergency medicine.  The overarching goal of the program is to prepare mentees to transition into specialty or emergency technician positions within UVS. The mentorship is a full-time, paid position.

Eligibility and Interview Process:

Our program is open to recent graduates from an accredited technician program or licensed technicians who have minimal work experience. Candidates should have taken their VTNE and be NYS licensed veterinary technicians or waiting to receive their license. A NYS veterinary technician license is required to start the program.

Candidates will go through a formal interview process and include a working interview. An application is required and includes submitting a resume and two professional references – one from a prior manager and one from a college professor or administrator.

Schedule and Time Requirements:

The mentorship is a six-month rotational training program, with multiple rotations through each of our services – emergency, cardiology, dermatology, fast track, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, radiology, rehabilitation, surgery, and treatment. The program includes one week of training with our Client Relations team and one week of rotating through our administrative departments – human resources, finance, inventory, IT, and communications. The program will allow for elective rotations by choice of the mentee at the end of the program. Candidates must be flexible with their schedule and willing to work various schedules/shifts during the program and upon completion.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience and at a minimum rate of $24.00/hour.
  • The position is eligible for medical, dental, and long-term disability coverage.

Successful Completion of the Technician Mentorship Program:

Mentees will be evaluated based on performance at the end of their mentorship, including skill level, knowledge and development, professionalism, and adherence to UVS’s mission, vision, and values.

While the program is a learning opportunity for newer licensed veterinary technicians, successful graduates from the program will be offered a position to stay on as a full-time specialty or emergency technician.
