Thanksgiving For Shelter Pets Donation Drive at UVS
November 23rd, 2016 | Posted in General, In the Community, What's New
Although the Warren County/Glens Falls Area is a bit of a distance from Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham, NY, the staff and doctors of UVS wanted to provide assistance for a newer organization committed to animals and the community: the Warren County SPCA.
Financial support and donations of supplies are always welcomed by the 501(c)(3) organization however the most helpful items this time of year are:
- dry kibble for dogs
- dry kibble for cats
- scoop-able cat litter
The Warren County SPCA is dedicated to assisting local municipalities by providing humane law enforcement services to stray, abused and neglected animals in order to foster a safe and welcome environment for residents and visitors.
This law enforcement-based organization is contracted by various local municipalities to provide animal control and humane investigative work. Fees paid by municipalities cover payroll and liability insurance for the Humane Officers and the space leased to house rescued animals. The local branch of the SPCA moved into its current location at Glens Falls Canine (GFK9), a dog boarding and day-care facility in July 2016.
Upcoming Plans for the Warren County SPCA:
December 2016—Basic Dog Bite Prevention — Workshops for families/children focusing on several issues that could lead to problems for young pet owners:
- spotting troubling/fear-response behaviors
- identifying food/toy-guarding behaviors
- benefits of crate training dogs
Early 2017—Construction of a “Cat Sanctuary” on the 121 Warren Street property with ample storage space for the planned “Pet Pantry” will occur early in the New Year. Similar to a community food pantry, which collects non-perishable goods for people, the future “Pet Pantry” will distribute donated pet foods to financially disadvantaged pet-owners.
