Dr. Rachel Hannum joins ER team!

We are excited to announce Rachel Hannum, DVM joined the UVS 24-Hour Emergency & Critical Care Service in early June!

Dr. Rachel Hannum was born in Albany, GA and grew up in Georgia and Northern Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1994 from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.  She then worked in the medical research field for six years prior to pursuing her DVM. In 2004, Rachel obtained her DVM from the VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Hannum started her career as an Associate Veterinarian at Companion Animal Clinic in Blacksburg, VA. In 2007 she moved to the Northeast and was an associate at East Greenbush Animal Hospital for seven years.  She then transitioned into emergency medicine and has worked at multiple ER hospitals in the area prior to joining Upstate Veterinary Specialties in 2018.

Rachel spends most of her free time at the barn with her two Quarter Horses; Mocha, whom she has raised and trained since she was six months old, and Eeyore, who is enjoying retirement. Her family consists of her husband, daughter, son, three chihuahuas, one Australian shepherd, two cats, three sugar gliders and two rats.
