Kimberley Kirchner, DVM, FFCP

Specialty: 24-Hour Emergency

“Pursue your passions, and everything else will fall into place.” – Gabrielle Giffords

Dr. Kimberley Kirchner grew up in the Berkshires, MA, on a small farm of pick-your-own blueberries with 68 acres dedicated to nature conservation. Growing up with many types of pets (dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, horses, birds, and more), Kim’s love for all animals was ever present at a young age. Having a mother as a nurse, Kim was enthralled with the medical stories that emerged from within the hospitals her mother worked at. Her father was a robust engineer who emphasized problem-solving and understanding the reason why something occurs before attempting to develop solutions. By 3-5 years old, Kim knew her future was clear: to become a veterinarian.

Kim received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2018. Her lifelong dream came true when she was accepted to Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in May 2022.

Dr. Kirchner started her career as a general practitioner in Upstate NY, where she served the community by treating a variety of cases, as well as making occasional house calls. Urgent and emergent cases were some of the most rewarding, where she was able to care for families and their pets when they were in their greatest need.

Dr. Kirchner joined Upstate Veterinary Specialties in June 2024 and is excited to treat more of these cases and provide enhanced 24/7 care. Kim especially enjoys surgery, client communication, organizational leadership, and community engagement. She aspires to advance her emergency and critical care skillset and inspire younger generations to become involved in veterinary medicine.

In her free time, Dr. Kirchner loves to travel around the globe, hike in the Adirondacks, and cook exquisite cuisine. She lives locally with her three cats, Knoley, Glia, and Little Man. Kim soon plans to add a black Labrador puppy to her home.
