Construction Update August – Focus on Building a Patient and People-friendly Hospital

Upstate Veterinary Specialties new hospitalIn addition to the expanded, advanced medical facilities which are taking shape at Upstate Veterinary Specialties’ new hospital at 152 Sparrowbush Road, attention is also being given to areas which will support a healthy and happy team of veterinary professionals.  The ongoing framing, plumbing and electrical work at the construction site can be envisioned as the final structures which will help to make the new hospital a great place to work!

Several features of the new building will add to an interior  environment which is beneficial to patients and the UVS team alike.  The main treatment area will feature an open floorplan to encourage collaborative medical care.  The large windows above the main treatment area allows both patients and their UVS caregivers to benefit from an abundance of natural light.  In the rooms dedicated to providing rehabilitation treatments, the “elephant bark” flooring will provide a softer, non-slip surface. With the expected growth in the number of doctors and staff at the new hospital, an expanded breakroom was a factor in planning for the new hospital.

The new breakroom will be much larger and will include the requisite refrigerator for staff lunches, a microwave, a dishwasher, coffee machine and sink not to mention more counter space and ample chairs and tables to accommodate the staff during their meal-times.  During nice weather, the UVS staff will also be able to enjoy their lunches on the covered terrace which extends from the staff breakroom.  Also close to the staff breakroom, a large room will be available to house the doctors’ and staff’s own pets during their shifts at the hospital.

Upstate Veterinary Specialties new hospitalThe increase in numbers of UVS employees and doctors from mid-May 2015 to a projected mid-December opening of the new hospital, makes the 2-fold increase in restrooms necessary.  In addition to UVS’ awareness of the need for occupational flexibility for expectant mothers, our new hospital will include a larger privacy-lounge for new mothers to utilize for lactation or rest breaks during the work-day.

From the tops of the hospital treatment area to the floor and everything in between, a considerable amount of thought and planning is being committed to UVS’ new hospital at 152 Sparrowbush Road.   We want to ensure it will be both a valuable healthcare resource for pets and a great place to work.  We look forward to sharing more updates with the community as construction continues through the next few months.
