Pet Stories and Client Reviews

I never expected that such a large practice could give such personalized care.

Just a note of thanks to the wonderful Drs. and staff at Upstate. Our beloved Brittany Kali passed away despite the wonderful care of Dr. Sedacca. While treating Kali he called us several times to check on her, and after she passed, he sent us a card with a hand written note. I never expected that such a large practice could give such personalized care. God bless you all. George & Jan

"Angel" W.

She now runs faster then we can walk and truly enjoys life with no pain!!!

Thank you Upstate Veterinary Specialties, especially Dr. Corbett and her team!! We first met Dr. Corbett back in early July with our newly rescued blind Blue Nose pitty. Our Vet recommended Dr. Corbett as a 2nd opinion for Angel’s blindness. Dr. Corbett examined Angel and determined that she had 2nd glaucoma and the only option would be removal of both eyes, yuck!! My husband and I both have an agreement!! Failure is not an option and we always do the…

"Stella Rue" Graduation Ceremony

Stella Rue’s chemotherapy “graduation” ceremony at UVS

It’s not everyday that people go above and beyond. Yesterday Dr. Arnold and her team did just that. For the last 25 weeks Dr. Arnold and amazing staff provided exceptional care to my four year old lab, Stella, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in April. Yesterday was her last chemo treatment, and what they did to celebrate her success was simply beautiful and meant so much to our family. The expert medical care that they provided to her has put…

"Banner" and his Viszla siblings

Essential to the overall experience…is the compassionate yet clear communication between doctors and family members

Dear Dr. Wey: Once again, I am in your debt and that of the entire staff of Upstate Veterinary Specialties. From the moment we brought “Banner” in to emergency, Dr. Outterson worked calmly, gently and thoroughly to diagnose the problem as a bladder stone. Of course, “Banner” presents “differently” to someone who doesn’t know his history so listening to our input and using every resource available to gather information quickly was critical.  The next morning, Dr. Bishop ruled out changes…

Dr. B. is always in our thoughts every time we see our happy, healthy “Big Boy”

“GuinnAgain” was thought to have a hygroma which kept getting larger. He was referred to Dr. Besancon who sent him for a biopsy and it was found that he had a cancerous tumor.  Dr. B. was sure “Gui” could handle and recover from necessary surgery which was to amputate his front right leg – and Dr. Besancon was absolutely right. The proof is in the picture.  Dr B. is always in our thoughts every time we see our happy, healthy…

Ralph S.

“Now we are caring for our boy and giving him lots of love as long as we can.”

My husband I took our dog Ralph here last week after our normal vet suggested his issues with balance, head tilt, and change in behavior was associated with neurological problems. After trying Cornell first (which is a bit closer to where we life) we were told we would have to wait 7 weeks. We then contacted Upstate and got an appointment 2 days later. We met with Dr. Bishop who was very warm and pleasant and just loved our dog….

4 weeks after surgery

“Viking” is on the road to recovery!

“Viking’s” grand name does not disappoint: the 165-pound bull mastiff recently underwent Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery performed by UVS surgeon Dr. M. Faulkner Besancon. Earlier this year, “Viking” slipped on ice outside his home which resulted in him favoring his right hind leg and having occasional difficulty with stairs or climbing onto the “man cave” couch. Following the slip, “Viking” visited his family veterinarian who then referred the family to consult with Dr. Besancon.  After examining “Viking” in…

We saw gifted hands bring our dog from certain death to a happy and gainful recovery…

Dr. Melinda Payson saved our dog “Ginger’s” life with an emergency splenectomy. She did this at 3 in the morning and our gratitude is overwhelming.  We saw gifted hands bring our dog from certain death to a happy and gainful recovery, with a promising prognosis. This letter is also to acknowledge you [Dr. Wey] and thank you for providing this facility for animals that desperately need care. Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors. Best regards, Len
